When was the last time the Chicago Cubs were in the playoffs?

The last time the Cubs were in the playoffs was in 2008 and this year marks the first time the Cubs and Cardinals both made the playoffs in the same season.

It may seem odd that the Cubs and Cardinals had never faced off in the postseason before, but there are logical reasons why. Before 1969 there were no other postseason series besides the World Series, which pitted the winner of the National and American Leagues against each other, and the Cubs and Cardinals have both always played in the NL.

Even after expanding the postseason with the division series in 1995, for the teams to play each other in a Series would’ve required one of them to win the Wild Card.
