In 1942, the Japanese empire controlled Manchuria and much of northeast China which includes Gubeikou, Tanggu, Tangshan, Shanhaiguan, Shimen (Shijiazhuang) and Manzhouguo (Manchukuo) Capital.
As of December 1941, Japan has already invaded Korea, Manchuria, northeast China, its main ports and Hainan, Formosa, and the Mariana, Caroline and Marshall Island groups. So in 1942, they already have the whole of French Indochina.
The conflict lasted for 8 years, 1 month, and 3 days (measured from 1937 to 1945). The Japanese troops in China formally surrendered on September 9, 1945, and by the provisions of the Cairo Conference of 1943, the lands of Manchuria, Taiwan, and the Pescadores Islands reverted to China. However, the Ryukyu Islands were maintained as Japanese territory.
