What does this saying mean, "keep your hopes up high and your head down low"?

"Keep your hopes up high and your head down low." This could mean to keep or make your hopes on top priority to achieve your dreams, but be humble without losing self-respect; to prevent you from ever having to swallow your pride.

As per Brookesbible.com, being humble does not mean being a pushover or a wimp. It doesn’t mean that you have to get down on your knees and grovel before others or believe in your core that you are no good and that everyone else is better than you are.

According to the Lord, when you are humble, you are free from pride and arrogance, not weighed down by negative self-talk.

The secret of not having to swallow your pride is to feel comfortable with every situation. Believe in your strengths, while you respect the gifts of others too.

No one can avoid the awkward things that happen, which make you lose face in front of people. But you can quickly recover composure, when you can understand and control the primeval instincts, which work within your mind to create your distress.

So how do we add a little more humility to our lives? Check out seven traits humble people have mastered that allow them to live accomplished, fulfilled and happy lives at Huffingtonpost.com.
