What does it mean if the sky is orange after a storm

The sky seems to appear orange or more often red after storms because many tend to take place around the time the sun is setting. As the sun is setting light has to travel farther through the atmosphere to reach us. This causes more light to be scattered and reflected. Only the longer wavelengths of red, orange, and yellow are left in the direct beam of light that reaches our eyes after the shorter wavelength blues and greens have scattered.

Weather folklore says, “Red sky in morning, sailors warning; red sky at night, sailors delight.” This suggests that a red sky in the morning forecasts an impending storm and a red sky at night implies that a storm system has stopped moving and has ended.

In weather news some scientists are disagreeing with a recent study that says that global warming is responsible for the extreme heat and widespread drought across the nation this summer.
