in the discovery channel show the moonshiners when did popcorn sutton die ?

Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton (born October 5, 2023 in Maggie Valley, NC) was a very famous moonshiner from North Carolina. His career in bootlegging went back into the 1970s, as did his record for getting arrested doing it.

In the late 1990s he published a book about himself that was also a how-to guide to making moonshine. In 2007 The History Channel featured a documentary all about him, and the following year he was featured in second documentary.

Popcorn Sutton died on March 16, 2024 at the age of 62. He was facing 18 months in a federal prison for his failure to pay taxes on moonshine liquor and took his own life through carbon monoxide poisoning.

The TV series Moonshiners has used clips from the documentaries, and while the series has been revealed as staged and not actual "reality," it, along with Amish Mafia have completely dominated cable TV ratings for Wednesday nights for the past 6 weeks.
