Rat - Urogenital System via kwout

The excretory and reproductive systems of vertebrates are closely integrated and are usually studied together as the urogenital system. However, they do have different functions: the excretory system removes wastes and the reproductive system produces gametes (spérm & eggs) and provides an environment for the developing embryo.

The male rat has 5 pairs of accessory séx glands. The secretions of these glands serve to nourish and activate the spérm, to clear the urethral tract prior to ejáculation, serve as a means of transporting the spérm in the female tract, and to create a copulatory plug to help ensure fertilization.

Mice and rats are really gentle, interesting animals. But sadly, millions of them are killed in painful experiments every year in the U.S.

Rats and mice aren’t lab equipment, and they don’t belong in laboratories. They belong in their natural habitats with their families. Check out these fascinating facts about mice and rats shared by Petakids.com.
