Why does a siren sound at 10:00 pm every night in Park City, Utah?

It was used as a curfew warning for Park City's young people until 1980 but you can still hear the siren sound every night at 10 p.m.

Initially, a 1,500 pound bell was installed to alert the community to future fires. In 1905 the bell was replaced by an electric siren activated from the telephone company's switch board.

It became known as the "Ten O'clock Whistle", as the fire department performed a daily check at 10 p.m. - to ensure the siren worked.
