What's the significance of the birth mark on cesaur in the blockbuster "rise of the planet of the apes"?

As per Planet of the Apes Wikia, Caesar is a similar character to Taylor in the original films, because of his situation and because the birthmark on his shoulder may be inspired by the burns Taylor got on his shoulder after fighting another human.

Caesar has a birthmark on his right shoulder at the same location that Taylor has an injury covered with black tar on his right shoulder in the original Planet of the Apes.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” stars James Franco as Will Rodman, a young scientist seeking a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, and Andy Serkis as Caesar, the clever chimp borne of that research.

Fans of the series will notice dozens of Easter eggs screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver planted in the film with the help of its director, Rupert Wyatt.

Here’s a guide to many of the references to classic ‘Apes’ from LATimes.com.

Of interest, find out why the original Planet Of The Apes desperately needs a reboot according to Cinemablend.
