What's the highest paying major?

The top earning major for the class of 2011 was engineering with a starting yearly salary of $61,872. Computer engineering majors were the highest paid out of the group with a $70,400 a year salary.

Computer science majors came a close second at $60,594. Business students which included finance, economics, accounting, and business administration majors came in third with an average salary of $48,144. Economics majors were the highest-paid out of the group earning $54,400.

Education graduates came second to last in the earnings contest with an average salary of $37,830. Those with majors in the Humanities and Social Science fields like psychology, criminal justice, and English earned the least with an average salary of $35,503.

The unemployment rate for college graduates under 25 averaged 7.2% from January through April 2012. The rate is not adjusted for seasonal factors. The unemployment rate for the U.S. as a whole is 8.1%.
