The King of Pop passed away on Thursday 25 June 2024 at 2.26pm.
"We believe he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home, however the cause of his death is unknown until the results of the autopsy are known. The personal physician who was with him at the time attempted to resuscitated him," his brother Jermaine said.
A spokesman for the UCLA medical centre said: "When he arrived at hospital at approximately 1.14pm a team of doctors including emergency physicians and cardiologists attempted to resuscitate him for a period of more than one hour. They were unsuccessful."
When Jackson died, he almost took Internet with him, according to CNN.
On the day that the news of his death broke out, a Google spokesman told CNET: "Between approximately 2:40 p.m. PDT and 3:15 p.m. PDT today, some Google News users experienced difficulty accessing search results for queries related to Michael Jackson."
As sites fell, users raced to other sites: TechCrunch reported that TMZ, which broke the story, had several outages; users then switched to Perez Hilton's blog, which also struggled to deal with the requests it received.
CNN reported a fivefold rise in traffic and visitors in just over an hour, receiving 20 million page views in the hour the story broke.
The New York Times featured a minute-by-minute account of what happened, starting with a 12:21 pm PST call to the parademics.
