What is the grinch? animal? human?

In his words, Dr Seuss said: "None of my animals are really animals...they're all people sort of."

Having said that, the Grinch is considered as a human rather than an animal.

The Grinch is a fictional character that appeared in Dr. Seuss' 1957 classic tale How The Grinch Stole Christmas. In its film adaptation, the Grinch (played Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the citizens of Whoville.

Dr. Seuss follows the tradition in children's picture books of representing children as creatures who look like animals but speak, dress, and act like humans.

Seuss' very small Whos are characteristic of the mice and rabbits that predominantly symbolize children in picture books, creatures who are "small enough to express traumas of children in a world of large adults," writes Perry Nodelman (Words About Pictures, 116). - Human Rights in Childrens Literature: Imagination and the Narrative of Law.

Good news! "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas" will air on TV throughout December. IBMTimes.com tells you when and where to watch.
