Lil Phat was born Melvin Vernell III; he was a breakout Hip Hop artist signed to Trill Entertainment, based out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
His collaboration on the hit single Independent, with Webbie in 2008 put his name on the map when the single reached #9 on the Billboard Top 100 charts.
The sad news arrived on Thursday June 7, 2012, officials reported that the Atlanta based rapper had been gunned down in a Georgia Hospital parking lot at 6:40pm.
Lil Phat was taken to Northside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead; he was only 19 years old
