fireworks

Fireworks are explosive pyrotechnic devices that when set off generate colored lights, smoke, and noise. They are generally classified as a ground or aerial firework. Most fireworks are constructed of paper or a pasteboard tube or casing filled with combustible material like black powder or flash powder. Colored flames and sparks can include red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and silver. The Chinese are credited with inventing fireworks in the 7th century to frighten away evil spirits and to pray for prosperity and happiness. Traditionally fireworks have been associated with Independence Day (4th of July) in the U.S., but fireworks are also used to celebrate weddings, birthdays, and New Year’s Eves. More than 8,000 people in the U.S. suffer injuries caused by the personal use of fireworks each year.
