The battery lifespan can vary by vehicle but is usually about four years in normal city/country driving conditions. AAA advises changing batteries after three to four years.

According to the US EPA, 95.7 percent of automobile batteries were recycled in 2009. Lead-acid batteries use over 80 percent of the lead produced in the U.S.

In recent news, the 2014 Honda Plug-In Hybrid Accord is the first gasoline-powered car to meet California’s SULEV20 standard, the toughest in the nation and one-third cleaner than the previous lowest state standard. This Honda model has lower greenhouse gas emissions than the fleet average standard required by all cars in 2025. The 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid went on sale in California and New York on January 15, 2013.
