In recent battery technology news, Chevrolet will be releasing the 2014 Spark EV. The electric (EV) Spark gets a 130 hp (110 kW) electric motor that puts out 400 lb-ft of torque, which is five times as much torque as a gas-powered Spark and 0.94 times as much as a base-model Corvette. Feeding the electric motor is a temperature-controlled lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of more than 20 kilowatt hours, which has its 336 prismatic cells packaged into a 133 liter box that is mounted under the Spark's rear seats and trunk floor. Weighing in at 560 lbs, and taking into account the loss of the gasoline motor as well, the battery pack should do wonders for the EV Spark's weight distribution.
