Can you help me with cooking times per pound of turkey?

Roast times for a turkey in an oven set to at least 325 °F:

Unstuffed:

  • 4 to 6 lb. bre@st : 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/4 hours
    6 to 8 lb. bre@st : 2 1/4 hours to 3 1/4 hours
    8 to 12 lbs. : 2 3/4 hours to 3 hours
    12 to 14 lbs. : 3 hours to 3 3/4 hours
    14 to 18 lbs. : 3 3/4 hours to 4 1/4 hours
    18 to 20 lbs. : 4 1/4 hours to 4 1/2 hours
    20 to 24 lbs. : 4 1/2 hours to 5 hours

Stuffed:

  • 8 to 12 lbs. : 3 hours to 3 1/2 hours
    12 to 14 lbs. : 3 1/2 hours to 4 hours
    14 to 18 lbs. : 4 hours to 4 1/4 hours
    18 to 20 lbs. : 4 1/4 hours to 4 3/4 hours
    20 to 24 lbs. : 4 3/4 hours to 5 1/4 hours

The turkey and the center of the stuffing temperature must be at 165 °F to be safe to eat. Check the temperature in the the thickest part of the bre@st, and the innermost part of the thigh and wing.

The bird should stand 20 minutes before you remove the stuffing and carve it.

In time for Thanksgiving, President Barack Obama has spared the lives of two special turkeys. He said, “They say that life is all about second chances. And this November, I could not agree more. So in the spirit of the season, I have one more gift to give, and it goes to a pair of turkeys named Cobbler and Gobbler."
