Can u just buy an iphone if u already have a att wireless phone or do u hve to have an available upgrade

You could buy an iPhone but if your current device is on AT&T Next, you would have to continue paying for that. Check your upgrade eligibility here.

Upgrade Options:

AT&T Next - AT&T Next takes the regular price of your smartphone and divides it into low monthly installment payments that are conveniently added to your monthly bill.

Already have AT&T Next? - Any time after 24, 18, or 12 installment payments (depending on your AT&T Next agreement), you may upgrade to a new AT&T Next smartphone! As long as your current phone is in good physical and fully functional condition, you can trade it in and upgrade to the hottest new smartphone.

No annual contract - No-annual-contract options are on a month-to-month contract because you brought your own device, have finished your AT&T Next installment agreement, or have finished your 2-year commitment. On this option, you can upgrade anytime.

2-year commitment - If you have an existing 2-year commitment for wireless service, you can upgrade to AT&T Next or an AT&T installment plan based on the chart below:
