Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, but it is not a federal holiday in the United States. Thus, most services such as the post office, mail, and banking should not be disrupted.

Federal offices are only closed on holidays which the federal government recognizes (i.e. New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas). The term “federal holiday” is not applicable to individual states and the private sector since each state has jurisdiction over its holidays.
