Why is Jennifer Morrison leaving ABC's 'Once Upon a Time'?

Once Upon a Time's sixth-season finale Sunday will be an Emma Swan song.

Jennifer Morrison, who plays lead character Emma in the ABC fantasy drama, announced on Instagram Monday that she will be leaving the series this month, when her six-season contract expires, but has agreed to return for one episode next season.

The series, with a two-part season finale due Sunday, 8 ET/PT, is expected to return for a seventh season, when executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have said the show could go in a new direction.

On Instagram, Morrison, who said she was invited by Kitsis and Horowitz to continue on the show, expressed her appreciation for Once, a fairy-tale inspired fantasy in which her character, the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, changed life in small town of Storybrooke.
