Ms. Bettencourt or Liliane Bettencourt is a French businesswoman and heiress of cosmetics giant L'Oreal.
She held a reported 33 per cent majority stake in the company that her chemist father Eugene Schueller, the inventor of modern hair dye, had founded. According to Forbes, she's the world's richest woman as her fortune is valued at $44 billion.
In 2011, Liliane Bettencourt was finally ruled medically incompetent, from the 'moderately heavy' onset of Alzheimers, which had, according to the doctors, been on the march since approximately 2006. In 2012 she resigned from the L'Oreal board.
Ms. Bettencourt died on September 21, 2023 at the age of 94. Francoise Bettencourt-Meyers used the adverb "peacefully" in an otherwise terse release to announce her mother's passing.
