Andre Johnson's father is Leroy Richardson - a football player, track runner, just like his son.
According to Houston Chronicle, from when Andre was 5 to 13, Richardson was around the family. But he wasn't a “real” father, and his Uncle Dre (his mother’s brother) was the closest thing Andre ever had to a dad.
Leroy was an absentee father, so siblings and relatives crowded into a small house as the family survived. Karen Johnson, his mother, was a single mom working as a letter carrier.
She had Andre after her sophomore year at Tennessee State, where she ran track; that's why she asked her older brothers Andre Melton and Keith Francis to watch over her son.
Andre Johnson followed in his uncle's athletic footsteps, becoming a Parade All-American at Miami Senior before moving on to the University of Miami. As a sophomore, Johnson led the Canes to the 2001 national title with 199 yards and two touchdowns against Nebraska in the Rose Bowl.
