Where did the egg bowl get its name

The term “Egg Bowl” can be traced back in 1978, when Tom Patterson (Executive Sports Editor of the Clarion-Ledger) decided to spice up the 1978 meeting, using the head-line of the game “Egg Bowl Is Up For Scramble”.

It was also called, "The Battle of the Golden Egg” which started in 1927 with a crowd of 14,000 in Oxford. It is where the Rebels won 20-12 and the symbol of supremacy in the series was born.

From The Commercial Dispatch , the 2013 Egg Bowl can now be referred to as Dak Prescott's Thanksgiving night miracle, as he engineered a fourth quarter comeback over Ole Miss that culminated with a dramatic three-yard plunge on his classic draw play on fourth down. Find out more here.
