What was the average yearly income in 1960?

According to the Bureau of the Census, the average (median) money income of families in the U.S. in 1960 was $5,600 (about $200 or 4 percent higher than in 1959).

The median income of year-round full time male workers was $5,400, while women who worked full-time throughout the year (28 percent of all female income recipients) had an average of $3,300 in 1960.

In the news, one in 10 Americans move every year, and the Census Bureau thinks it can make it a little easier for them to decide where to land. Find out more about a new app at The Washington Post.
