What was first beach volleyball or indoor volleyball

Sources suggest that the origin of volleyball can be traced in 1895. The game was called Mintonette, a pastime to be played preferably indoors and by any number of players.

It was renamed volleyball because of the volleying nature of play.

Beach volleyball's origin was in 1920's. As per Volleyball.org, most accounts place the sport's origin in Santa Monica, California, where the first Volleyball courts were put up on the beach at the playground (Santa Monica). Families played 6 vs. 6.

In the latest buzz, Brazil's world champion pairing of Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt knocked the USA's Phil Dalhausser and Nicholas Lucena out of the Olympic beach volleyball competition on Monday (15 August), in a dramatic quarter-final match at Copacabana beach.
