What percentage of all movies made in the U.S.A. are based on books?
It's difficult to come up with the percentage of how many films made in the U.S. are based on books, but some film critics believe that the number is between 40 and 50%. What we can tell you, is that there have been hundreds of screenplays written to date which are based on novels.
In 2013 alone at least four books were turned into movies: Carrie, The Host, Ender's Game, and Catching Fire.
There are at least nine films based on books that will be released sometime during 2014: The Monuments Men, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, This is Where I Leave You, The Maze Runner, Gone Girl, Mockingjay (Part 1), Unbroken, and Wild.
