POTUS is an acronym for President of the United States.
Barack Obama is the 44th and current President, originally elected to office in 2009. He is in his second term. President Obama was a member of the Illinois State Senate from 1996-2004 and a United States Senator from 2005-2008.
President Obama recently sided with Guantanamo Bay protestors who are in the news. More than 100 detainees at Guantanamo Bay are on a hunger strike after being held for several years without being charged or put on trial. Obama stated that the detention camp needs to be closed and prisoners either transferred to other countries or put on trial.
