What is a stein hoisting competition?

According to US Steinholding Association, steinholding (stein hoisting) is a traditional Bavarian strength contest in which competitors hold a full one-liter beer stein (or Masskrug/Mass in German) out in front of their bodies with a straight arm, parallel to the ground. You go as long as you can and the last man hoisting is the winner.

There isn't currently a world-level competition, so the US Steinholding Association don't know of any official world record, but the US national record is currently 19 minutes, 15 seconds, set by Deryk Lindsey at the 2016 National Masskrugstemmen Championships at the Steuben Day Parade and New York City Oktoberfest.

See Previous National and Regional champions listed at Steinholding Competition Results.

The US Steinholding Association also shares these Official Steinholding Rules.
