What does urovec do?

Not Medical Advice: Urovec (which consists of tetracycline, sulfisoxazole and phenazopyridine) used for treating infections caused by certain bacteria, works by slowing the growth of sensitive bacteria by interfering with the production of proteins needed by the bacteria to grow. Slowing the bacteria's growth allows the body's defense mechanisms to destroy them.

Phenazopyridine - A local anesthetic that has been used in urinary tract disorders. Its use is limited by problems with toxicity (primarily blood disorders) and potential carcinogenicity.

Sulfisoxazole - A short-acting sulfonamide antibacterial with activity against a wide range of gram- negative and gram-positive organisms.

Tetracycline - Urovec (Tetracycline) is a broad spectrum polyketide antibiotic produced by the Streptomyces genus of Actinobacteria. It exerts a bacteriostatic effect on bacteria by binding reversible to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit and blocking incoming aminoacyl tRNA from binding to the ribosome acceptor site. It also binds to some extent to the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit and may alter the cytoplasmic membrane causing intracellular components to leak from bacterial cells.
