What does kanto mean in japanese

Kanto, Japan's largest plain, literally means the east border. Its regional rival, Kansai, on the other hand, means the west border.

The Kanto region lies on the Pacific coast of southeastern Honshu. The large metropolises of Tokyo and Yokohama are located in this region which consists of seven prefectures (Ibaraki, Tokyo, Tochigi, Kanagawa, Chiba, Gunma and Saitama).

Coastal Kanto regions are Chiba, Tokyo, Ibaraki and Kanagawa prefectures.

The climate in this region is generally mild, and the four seasons are sharply delineated.
