Julia Louis-Dreyfus played the character of Elaine Benes on the TV series Seinfeld (1990-1998).
The character's full name was Elaine Marie Benes, and she was the ex-girlfriend of Jerry Seinfeld in the show, though she and Seinfeld still remained friends (and form half of a quartet of friends which also included George Costanza, and Cosmo Kramer).
Louis-Dreyfus got her professional acting start playing Jeanette Cooper in the 1986 film Troll. After the Seinfeld series she appeared in shows such as Arrested Development (2004-2005). The Simpsons (2001-2008), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000-2009), and The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006-2010).
In latest buzz, less than two weeks after her record-setting Emmy win for “Veep,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus announced recently that she has breast cancer. The news drew words of support from many, including a former vice president.
“1 in 8 women get breast cancer,” Ms. Louis-Dreyfus, 56, wrote on Twitter and Instagram. “Today, I’m the one.”
She then immediately shifted the conversation to health care and cancer research. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring friends, and fantastic insurance through my union,” she wrote. “The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.” Read more of the news at The New York Times.
