What are the characteristics of collagen and elastin?
Collagen and elastin are both proteins that form fibers and help make up the body's connective tissue. Collagen is what gives connective tissue its strength and flexibility. Elastin is a protein with an elastic quality. It returns to its original shape after being stretched. Both proteins are linked to aging. As people age, elastin production decreases which accounts for more sagging and wrinkles in the skin.
