Perception is the interpretation of sensory stimuli which reach the sense organs and brains.
What one percieves depends on selection, organization and interpretation of stimuli. An individual selectively attends to certain stimuli and not to others.
Factors influencing perception include:
Functioning of the sense organs
Functioning of the brain
Previous experience
Frequency of exposure
Psychological state
Interest
Motivation
Behavior of the organism
Human beings have perceptions matching to each sense organ-visual perception, auditory perception, etc. Interpretation gives meaning to sensation and we become aware of objects.
While we're always using our brains, we're not necessarily doing much to keep them in good shape. Check out some tips on how to train your brain and exercise your mental muscles at Lifehacker.com.
