The tattoo across the chest of FX’s Sons of Anarchy character Harry Opie Winston played by Ryan Hurst says, “The center cannot hold, anarchy is the only hope.” “The center cannot hold” comes from the William Butler Yeats poem The Second Coming. Hurst is said to have chosen the quote himself.

In Season 5, episode 3 which aired September 25, 2012, Opie was killed in jail, after a blow to the back of his head during a brutal beating.

The cast and fans of Sons of Anarchy are mourning the September 26, 2023 real-life death of Johnny Lewis, 28. He played Kip Half Sack Epps in 26 episodes of the show’s first two seasons before the character was killed in the Season 2 finale. Lewis reportedly fell or jumped to his death after climbing onto a roof. Police believe that he murdered his landlady and died trying to flee the scene after hearing approaching sirens.
