In the olympics team swimming why does one member wear a pink swimsuit?

In Olympic swimming relay races, team members usually all wear the same colors. Often suit colors are based on the flags of each country. Some swimmers elect to wear their own favorite suit, which is colored differently than the suits of the rest of their team.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Rebecca Soni chose to wear a pink swimsuit in the women's 200 meter breaststroke and 4x100 meter medley relay. Her exact reasons are not known for certain, but it's said by the media to be her trademark suit. It's also believed by many that she wears it for luck, since she's won many races in it.

Her Twitter followers encouraged her to wear the pink suit again after Soni broke a World Record in the semifinal of the 200 meter breaststroke. On her Twitter page, Soni stated, "Heading to finals day 6! Busting out the #pinksuit one more time." She then went on to win a gold medal in both the 200m breaststroke and the 4x100m medley relay while wearing the pink Arena swimsuit.

She also got a silver medal in the 100 meter breaststroke at the 2012 London Olympics. Interestingly enough, she wasn't wearing the pink suit in that race.
