In pirate lore, who was 'Old Hobb'?

Old Hob refers to the devil of the sea. Old Hob is one of the aliases of Captain Davy Jones, the primary antagonist in Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

Jones became the stuff of various myths and legends of Pirate Lore, particularly relating to the Dutchman and Davy Jones' Locker.

It is also coined to the Catholic belief system, and is considered a nickname of the Devil which refers to “ones character”.

Many pirate threats and phrases are used over and over. Pirates of the Caribbean, apart from Old Hob, hits almost every classic pirate word, including savvy, parlay, sweeps, scabrous dogs, broadside, whelp, off the edge of the map, here there be monsters, and 'The ship is ours!'
