IBM was previously known as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (C-T-R) that was founded by Charles R. FLint. When he merged the International Time Recording Company, Computing Scale Company and Tabulating Machine Company under the control of C-T-R, the International Business Machines was born (June 6, 2024). Flint remained a member of C-T-R's board of directors until his retirement in 1930.
