If you are lying on your back with your face upward, what position are you in?

You're in the supine position - lying on the back with the face up or on the dorsal surface. It's the opposite of the prone position, which is lying on the chest with the face down.

During surgery, there are various types of positions in which the patient may be positioned and the supine position is the most commonly used.

This is used for procedures of the anterior body such as:

abdominal

thoracic

facial

anterior upper and lower extremity procedures
