According to Business Insider, here are 11 signs someone is lying to you:
- 1- They change their head position quickly.
- 2- Their breathing changes.
- 3- They stand very still.
- 4- They repeat words or phrases.
- 5- They provide too much information.
- 6- They touch or cover their mouth.
- 7- They instinctively cover vulnerable body parts.
- 8- They shuffle their feet.
- 9- It becomes difficult for them to speak.
- 10- They stare at you without blinking much.
- 11- They tend to point a lot.
While it is impossible to say with 100 percent certainty whether a person is lying or not, there are clues and questioning strategies you can employ that can at least improve your chances of detecting deception.
A professor of law at the University of California Hastings College of Law, Hartwig and Clark Freshman, J.D., suggests to ask the suspected liar questions he or she wouldn't think to plan an answer to. You can also use what you do know to detect truth or deception or look for the person's "soft spots."
