How much was Tupac worth when he was alive?

At the time of his death, Tupac Shakur's net worth was about $40 million.

But his wealth didn't stop there. In fact, Forbes.com reported in 2011 (15 years after his death) that the rapper is earning like he's still alive.

Here's a quote from the article:

Lost in the news buzz is the fact that Shakur is earning money like he’s still alive. The late rapper’s estate took in about $3.5 million last year, by our estimates. Shakur has sold over 75 million records worldwide, with the bulk of that coming after his death; seven of his 11 platinum albums were released posthumously. As recently as 2007 Shakur’s estate banked $9 million–more as Eminem or 50 Cent made last year.

Shakur became the first artist to reach Number 1 on the Billboard charts while serving a prison sentence.

In early 1994 he was found guilty of assault on Menace II Society co-director Allen Hughes and served 15 days in jail. By the end of the year, he was found guilty of the assault only a day after being shot by muggers in the lobby of a New York recording studio.

He was later sentenced to one and half to four and a half years in prison. While his 1995 album Me Against the World (Number 1 pop, Number 1 R&B) headed to the top of the charts, Shakur headed for prison.
