News organizations that do not belong to the White House Correspondents’ Association may still purchase a table at the gala. However they are chosen at the whim of Correspondents’ Association executive director Julia Whitson.
The White House Correspondents’ Association dates back to 1914. Proceeds of the dinner provides scholarships to journalism students.
