Does the color of a door at an amish house mean anything?

Yes. For example, rumors claiming that blue doors of some Amish homes means a daughter is available to be wed. However, Amish representatives unanimously deny this and say instead that it merely relates to tradition and customs.

As reported by SF Gate, almost all Amish homes are painted white on the outside, regardless of which Amish community they are located in. Amish people believe in a very simple lifestyle that does not draw attention to the individual. The "old order" Amish people also do not allow any wall hangings or window curtains.

Interior rooms in Amish homes are a bit warmer, with earth tones and neutral shades. This tradition comes from past practices of using pigments found in nature. Sage green and cream or tan color schemes are common, with touches of lighter spring green or sky blue used for variation. Amish quilts tend to use deep, rich colors; it is therefore not unusual to find interior accent walls or trim painted to match quilt colors such as purple, cranberry, charcoal gray and even black.
