Yes! Joey Chestnut has done it again.
The man they call Jaws won the 101st Nathan's Annual Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island in New York on Tuesday, July 4th, his 10th victory in the event, USA Today reported.
Chestnut, the reigning champion, devoured 72 hot dogs during the 10-minute race, breaking the previous record of 70 that he set last year.
Carmen Cincotti finished in second place with 62 hot dogs, while Matt Stonie, the 2015 first-place winner, placed third with 48.
Of interest, are you wondering how much Chestnut consumed to win the title? Chestnut's hot dog haul only totaled about 72 g of carbohydrates. If Chestnut had just eaten the hot dogs, it would have qualified as a "low-carb" diet. However, add the buns, (based on the Nutrition Facts label) and the carbohydrates jump up to 1584 g, which is well over 500% the recommended daily limit. Oh, well, so now it's a high carb and ketogenic diet.
