Keith was the second son of Bob and Marienne Urban. When he was two years old, their family moved to Australia. The musician inherited a passion for American country music from his parents.
Karl Urban on the other hand is the only child of a German immigrant who, though now retired, owned a leathergoods retail store for many years in Wellington. His mother, who used to work at Film Facilities in Wellington, seems to have influenced his interest in acting.
