what is the entire riddle for lizzy borden?

"Lizzie Borden took an axe, and gave her mother forty whacks. And when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one."

Yankee Magazine's August 1966 issue includes John U. Ayotte's "The Unfathomable Borden Riddle," a well-written piece which summarizes the case and briefly discusses the theories of Edmund Pearson and Edward D. Radin. Read more about the article at LizzieAndrewBorden.com.

Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on July 19, 1860, Lizzie Borden and her sister, Emma, lived with their father, Andrew Borden, and stepmother, Abby (Durfee Gray) Borden, into adulthood. On August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were found killed in their home. Lizzie was arrested and tried for the axe killings.

In 1893, she was acquitted and continued to live in Fall River until her death, on June 1, 1927. The case was never solved.
