What is one similarity between Samuel Gompers and Cesar Chavez

One similarity between the actions of Samuel Gompers and Cesar Chavez is that both leaders organized workers to strive for better conditions.

Samuel Gompers defined the purpose of the labor movement in America and established the program used to solve labor disputes. He thought unions must work only to increase wages, develop work conditions and stop unfair treatment of workers. He named his method pure and simple unionism.

Cesar Chavez made the first farmers union in 1962 and that union later became the United Farm Workers of America. He developed the conditions of farm workers by making their mistreatment a national issue.

Of interest, according to Bloomberg the outlook for the labor market remains bleak. Older Americans are holding on to their jobs longer, limiting openings for newcomers, and employers are cutting costs by extending working hours and paying overtime, rather than hiring. Find out more here.
