What is an aerial flood warning?

The National Weather Service uses the phrase "Areal Flood" to describe a flood over a large area, thus an "Areal Flood Warning" means the same thing as the more commonly used "flood watch," the potential for a large flood over a vast area of land. Although it sounds similar to "aerial," that has a completely separate meaning, referring to the air (in a slightly amusing play on words, a photo from a plane or helicopter of an "areal flood" would be an "aerial areal photo").
