No, Bryton McClure (born Bryton Eric McClure on August 17, 2023 in Lakewood, California, but also using the name Bryton James) is not really deaf, and he admits it's a difficult role to play portraying Devon Hamilton who loses his hearing as a result of meningitis.
In an interview he said "I don't think anyone could really truly grasp and understand what it's like losing your hearing unless it actually happened to you."
He finished by saying "All I could do was to try and put myself in that position."
McClure has credits in some 500 episodes of The Young and the Restless beginning in the spring of 2004.
