How much power does an 8.1 Chevy engine have

The 8.1 Liter V8 is a workhorse engine that was available in Chevrolet’s larger vehicles, like the 2004 Silverado 3500 and the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 2500. From 2001-2003 the 8.1 was rated at 340hp and 455 lb/ft of torque. From 2004-2007 the number changed slightly to 330hp and 450 lb/ft.

The official name of this engine is the Vortec 8100 (Regular Production Option L18). Chevy’s parent company, General Motors, has been producing Vortec cylinder-head-equipped engines since they appeared for the first time in 1986 on the 4.3L V-6. The name “Vortec” comes from the way in which these cylinder heads cause a vortex in the combustion chamber. This causes a more powerful and more efficient mixture of air and fuel.
