It's an undisclosed figure that depends on the team, knowledge about the cars, and level of experience, sources are suggesting.
It appears that the paycheck depends on what the owner is willing and able to pay, the sponsors, the money being paid to the team and the financial security of the particular team.
Those who work for top range teams will be paid between $60,000-$90,000+, according to anecdotal reports.
When Mike Neff, became both crew chief and driver for the first time for JFR, an NHRA drag racing team, its owner (John Force), was willing to pay Neff whatever it took to get him to take the double assignment. For more than 30 years, John Force Racing has had Castrol as their main sponsor.
As it turns out, the owner determines the pay for the crew chief and the salary of the crew members, which all would be determined by the financial security of the team.
