How long does it take to chill a 2 liter soda in the freezer

It will take about 3 to 3-1/2 hours.

You can use any soda or soft drink. Start with a room temperature soda, shake up the bottle violently and place it in a freezer. Shaking up increases the pressure in the bottle and actually lowers the freezing point. Do not disturb the soda while it is chilling.

Supercooling (also known as undercooling) is chilling a liquid below its freezing point, without turning it into a solid. The added ingredients in sodas and other soft drinks lower the freezing point of water so you need a freezer below 0°C or 32°F. When you shake up a can or a bottle of soda, you're removing large bubbles that could act as sites for ice formation.

As long as the cap is not opened, a soda that has been chilled to the proper temperature can remain fluid. When the cap is loosened, CO2 escapes and lowers the solution concentration, freezing point raises and the soda freezes.
